Behind each door there's one surprise. Some days it's a whole machine, like the mixer truck or the combine. Other days it's the bits that make the game work: a worker, a stack of barrels, a road barrier, a traffic light.
By door 24 your kid has 10 rigs, 41 bits and a whole farm to run them on. The chocolate calendar is empty by breakfast. This one is still out on the floor in January.
The yellow crew does the heavy work: a cement mixer, a wheeled excavator, a bulldozer, a dump truck and a wheel loader with its bucket up. The green crew runs the farm: a six-wheel utility truck, a big cab tractor, a little open tractor, a combine and a wagon.
Each one is 5 to 7 cm long, chunky and smooth, with fat tyres that roll. Small enough to fit in a 3-year-old's fist. Also small enough to end up under the couch, so count them at bedtime.
Unfold the mat and there's a farm and a building site: green fields, dirt roads, a red barn, a pond and a patch for digging. As the doors open, every new rig finds its spot.
By Christmas morning the whole crew is parked on the mat, the cones are out and somebody is in charge of the traffic lights. The small bits are a choking hazard, so this one is for ages 3 and up.
Our son is 4 and only talks about diggers. Day 3 was the dump truck and he slept with it. The little workers turned out to be his favourite part, which I did not see coming.
Last year the chocolate was gone by lunch on day 1. This year the twins take turns with the doors and the mat has been on the floor all month. Count the cones at bedtime, they wander.
He lives on the other side of the ocean, so I had it shipped to his house. The box looks like a present on its own. His dad sends me a photo of every door.

Each vehicle is 5 to 7 cm (about 2 to 2.75 in) long, small enough to hold in a 3-year-old's fist. They're little toys for little hands, not big trucks for the sandpit. Our photos show them next to real hands and mugs so you know what to expect.

Send a photo and your order number to hello@chonkyrigs.com within 48 hours of delivery and we'll ship the missing piece or a new calendar, free. Calendars with all doors still closed can be returned within 30 days of delivery: write to us first for instructions. Return shipping is on you.
